Description: |
The Planetary Environments Laboratory studies the chemistry of atmospheres and surfaces of planets and their moons. We participate
in all phases of planetary investigations, from defining and developing specialized instrumentation to analyzing, interpreting,
distributing, and archiving data collected during flight missions. We provide a basis for planetary mission studies through
a vigorous program of planetary analog research that includes laboratory simulations of planetary environments, geochemical
and isotopic analysis, computational modeling of planetary atmospheres, and field studies of planetary analog sites.

Description: |
The Geospace Physics Laboratory focuses on processes occurring in the magnetospheres of magnetized planets and on the interaction
of the solar wind with planetary magnetospheres. Researchers also study processes, such as magnetofluid turbulence, that permeate
the heliosphere from the solar atmosphere to the edge of the solar system.Laboratory researchers conceive and develop missions
to observe plasma phenomena throughout geospace, other planetary magnetospheres, and the heliosphere. The Laboratory develops
improved instrumentation and theoretical models to investigate plasma processes. It establishes partnerships throughout the
international science community, providing data access, analysis tools, and user support.

Description: |
The Computational and Information Sciences and Technology Office (CISTO) provides Information Technology (IT) and computational
services, as well as applied information system research and services, to support the research programs of the Science and
Exploration Directorate (SED). The office provides high performance computing and networking, mass storage and information
systems technologies, computational science expertise, software engineering and performance optimization services, information
technology (IT) security services, scientific visualization services, research in information science and technology, and
educational and outreach programs. CISTO is SED's interface with Goddard's Chief Information Officer and IT organizations
in Code 700 regarding IT security policy, implementation, and services, Enterprise Architecture development and compliance,
strategic IT investment planning and management, and implementing NASA and Goddard IT policies and initiatives to ensure compliance.
CISTO also develops strategies to optimize cost-effective use of information technologies in support of the Directorate's
mission.

Description: |
The Heliophysics Science Division conducts research on the Sun, its extended solar-system environment (the heliosphere), and
interactions of Earth, other planets, small bodies, and interstellar gas with the heliosphere. Division research also encompasses
geospace -- Earth's uppermost atmosphere, the ionosphere, and the magnetosphere -- and the changing environmental conditions
throughout the coupled heliosphere (solar system weather).Scientists in the Heliophysics Science Division develop models,
spacecraft missions and instruments, and systems to manage and disseminate heliophysical data. They interpret and evaluate
data gathered from instruments, draw comparisons with computer simulations and theoretical models, and publish the results.
The Division also conducts education and public outreach programs to communicate the excitement and social value of NASA heliophysics.
